Things to consider before adopting a cat |
|
While cats are considered independent and can usually take care of themselves there are some things to consider before deciding to adopt from a shelter or rescue organization. Firstly, do you want a kitten or an adult? Everyone knows that kittens are cute but they are also very active. Sometimes they are very active at night. Do you need your sleep? Maybe an older more sedate cat is more you style. Many older cats can provide wonderful companionship to older individuals who want company. Older cats already have their personality and can be selected based on personality type. Long hair cats require more maintenance and grooming requirements than short hair cats. If you have friends who are allergic, you may want to consider a different breed. If you don’t have time to brush them, you may not want a Persian. All cats are housebroken quickly and use a litter box immediately. Most indoor cats require that the litter box be cleaned weekly and the litter scooped frequently. If you do not like to do this a cat may not be for you. There are expenses associated with cats. While many are not required to be registered, like dogs, they do need to have their annual shots and check-ups from a vet. |
